Makhachkala, July 27, 2016. In Dagestan, scientists found fossilized skeleton of ichthyosaur who lived during the Jurassic period on the territory of the republic.
"We found the fragments of Ichthyosaurs during excavations in Akushinsky district of the republic. The skeleton is in excellent condition. The head and most of the body stay preserved. It remains only to determine the exact age of the discoveries. We assume that it could be around 100 million years old fragments which means that ichthyosaur lived in the Jurassic period - the era of dominance of dinosaurs on land"- the paleontologist Omar Hapisov said.
The researchers intend to conduct excavations on the site of detection of ichthyosaur. According to "Komsomolskaya Pravda", the skeleton of the marine reptiles will remain in Omar Hapisov’s private collection in his native village of Nizhni Chugli.
